The word 'holistic' seems to be ever more popular as a way of approaching health and, indeed, life. So what are holistic holidays? The dictionary defines holistic (or holism) as being concerned with wholes or integrated systems rather than with their parts. Put another way, it's the theory that living matter is made up of organic or unified wholes that are greater than the sum of their parts.
Since 2003, The Healthy Holiday Company has been providing guests with just such an approach to their health and well being. We offer three types of holistic holiday experience: in:spa for health retreats, destination yoga for high-quality yoga holidays, and fitscape for fitness holidays.
All our holidays combine the three cornerstones of a holistic holiday: a nutritious diet, physical exercise, and attention to mind and spirit.
Our expert team includes nutritionists and chefs who work together to create the menus for our holidays and retreats. These menus feature light, innovative food that makes use of the highest quality fresh local fruits, vegetables, fish, poultry and other ingredients, all organic when possible. It's the perfect blend of nutritious and delicious cuisine. Alongside targeted exercise, it is a formula that encourages deep cellular cleansing and rejuvenation that hundreds of our guests have enjoyed and greatly benefited from.
As we all know, modern lifestyles tend to drive us to consuming foods and drinks that burden our bodies. This leaves them lacking in essential nutrients, taxes their reserves and depletes vitality. A regular focused period of healthy eating is a sensible antidote to this somewhat inevitable pattern. Detoxifying your system, exercising and relaxing allows your body time to restore its vitality. Following such a programme regularly can be the ultimate in preventative healthcare.
Our holidays involve guests in daily outdoor activities, making full and interesting use of the diverse natural surroundings that each venue offers. Each venue offers its own unique physical challenges, with activities that might include hiking in stunning mountain terrain, cycling through lush rolling hills, personal training and yoga on manicured lawns, swimming or a journey along secluded coastal beaches in sea-kayaks.
Exercise leads to heightened aerobic fitness, improved core stability and muscle tone, and accelerated fat burning. If yoga in included, this greatly helps with posture, breathing and meditation.
Mind & spirit
In addition to optimising your physical wellbeing, a further aim of the holiday is to allow time for personal reflection, relaxation and the opportunity to learn more about the positive effects that a more balanced lifestyle can have on one’s health. Our in:spa retreats include regular massages by one of our experienced therapists.
We believe that this holistic approach is why so many of our guests return every year, and why we have enjoyed such great reviews.
