Kath Beesley is a long standing in:spa personal trainer and very popular with our guests. Here’s a recent photo of her training at Palais Paysan on an in:spa retreat earlier this year. If that wasn’t enough, we thought we would put her on the spot and ask her a few questions so you could find out a bit more about her:

Have you always been interested in keeping fit and healthy?

I’ve always been in to sport… after doing Sports Studies at university I wasn’t sure what to do, that’s where I got into the fitness industry. Nothing better than having a job doing what you love!

Did you play any sports at school?

Just a few: hockey, netball, athletics, tennis, squash, badminton, lacrosse… rounders!!! I even tried rugby at university (epic fail on that front).

Do you have a favourite gym exercise?

Lunges – get those glutes firing! (Bums)

Would you rather workout in a gym or in a park?

Park! Everytime!

What is your go to breakfast when you know you have a hard day ahead?

Eggs – boiled – oh, or Miranda, one of the amazing in:spa chefs, does the best scrambled eggs in the world.

What’s your favourite post-workout drink/meal?

Fish cakes!

You have to invite a sports personality to dinner, who would you invite?

Well a few – any excuse for a party!

  • Jonny Wilkinson – cutie and world cup hero 🙂
  • Paula Radcliff – awesome runner, and she also seems so nice.
  • Lance Armstrong in 2013 – I’d love to quiz him about the Tour, drugs, etc…
  • Jessica Ennis – in 2012 she was awesome at the Olympics.
  • Freddie Flintoff – he makes me giggle!

What would you cook if for them?

Thai Green curry with prawns – yummy!

Do you have any advice for a fitness newbie, or somebody coming back to fitness after some time off?

Try lots of new things, and focus on things you enjoy; variation is key! If you know you hate running, you know you won’t stick at it. Avoid things you hate otherwise you will give up. Exercise should be fun!

You’re a keen marathon and half marathon runner, what are your top tips?

Squats, lunges and core exercises! People still have no idea the positives these give to your running. My fastest Marathon was done with the least running of my life – it was teaching legs, bums and tums classes and sports conditioning classes that did it.

What do you do to relax after a busy day at work?

See my buddies and chill out with them. A nice meal and a cheeky vino might be consumed too.

What is your favourite type of holiday, and where?

Something with a bit of adventure, must be warm, outdoors stuff always good. The Dolomites in the summer is pretty stunning.

Do you have any vices?

Mozarella cheese – I can’t open a pack and not eat the lot! Sauvignon Blanc.

Do you have a favourite quote or mantra?

Go Go Go

What is the best advice you’ve ever been given?

Don’t hold back

Life – Don’t live a little – Live A LOT!

What do you do when you’re not working on our in:spa retreats?

I run Quit the Gym: fun outdoor fitness classes based in Ealing.
